EditXo vs Photopea
By the EditXo team · Photopea’s public pages checked 6 October 2026 · We make EditXo, so read this as one side’s honest attempt at fairness.
These two have the same core idea: do the work in the browser so your files never leave your device. Photopea takes that idea to a full Photoshop-style editor with layers, masks, PSD files and dozens of formats. EditXo takes it to a simpler photo editor for common jobs, with the AI background remover running locally. They are not really rivals; this page is for the moment you are deciding which tab to open.
Short version
Pick EditXo for a quick, guided job: cut out a background, retouch a portrait, apply a filter, resize for Instagram, convert a HEIC. You get a result in a few clicks without learning an interface.
Pick Photopea for anything a designer would open Photoshop for: layered compositions, masks, text effects, PSD, SVG or RAW files, print work. It is far more capable, and it is also free.

Frequently asked questions
Is Photopea also private?
Photopea’s own site says the editor runs on your device and does not upload your files, and that you can keep using it offline. For individual AI features, check Photopea’s documentation. EditXo’s AI background remover is confirmed to run in the browser.
Can I open a PSD in EditXo?
No. EditXo opens PNG, JPG, WebP and HEIC. For PSD files use Photopea.
Which is better for a beginner?
EditXo, for the jobs it covers. If your job is not in the list of tools, Photopea can almost certainly do it, with a longer learning curve.
Why not just use Photopea for everything?
You can. EditXo exists for people who found Photopea intimidating for a five-minute task, and for the on-device AI cutout with no upload.
