EditXo vs remove.bg

By the EditXo team · remove.bg’s public pages checked 6 October 2026 · We make EditXo, so read this as one side’s honest attempt at fairness.

Both tools cut the background out of a photo in one click. The difference is where the work happens and what you pay for the result. remove.bg uploads your image to its servers, gives you a preview-size download for free and sells full-resolution results as credits. EditXo runs the AI model in your browser, never uploads the photo, and exports full resolution for free. remove.bg has been doing this since 2018 and has an ecosystem EditXo does not. Here is the honest picture.

Short version

Choose EditXo when

Pick EditXo if you want full-resolution cutouts for free, do not want to upload the photo (product shots before launch, ID photos, family pictures), or want to keep editing after the cutout: replace the background, retouch, resize and export in one place.

Choose remove.bg when

Pick remove.bg if you need an API or a desktop app for bulk processing, a Photoshop plug-in, or integrations with Canva and other design tools, and you are happy to pay per full-resolution image. It is the established choice for high-volume e-commerce pipelines.

Frequently asked questions

Is EditXo really free at full resolution?

Yes. There is no credit system. Because the processing happens on your device rather than on a server we pay for, there is no per-image cost to pass on.

Is the cutout quality the same?

Both use modern segmentation models. remove.bg has years of tuning and tends to be stronger on very fine hair against busy backgrounds. EditXo is strong on products, portraits and clear subjects, and has a refine brush for the rest. Try the same photo in both; it costs nothing.

Can EditXo batch-remove backgrounds?

Not yet. Batch mode applies adjustments and filters to many photos; batch background removal is on the roadmap. remove.bg’s desktop app and API are better for bulk work today.

Does remove.bg keep my photos?

Its privacy policy describes how uploaded images are handled and for how long; read it before uploading anything sensitive. EditXo never receives the photo, so there is nothing to keep.

How this comparison was made

We read remove.bg’s public pages on 6 October 2026 and recorded what they state. We did not benchmark output quality in a lab; try the same photo in both, which costs nothing. If anything here is out of date, tell us and we will correct it.
