Remove background from any image, free and private
EditXo uses an on-device AI model to cut out the subject of your photo and leave a transparent background. Nothing is uploaded, so it is safe for product shots, portraits, ID photos and anything else you would rather keep to yourself.
How to use it
- Open the editor and drop in your photo, or click Choose File.
- Select the Remove BG tab in the right-hand panel and click Remove Background. The AI model loads once and then runs on your device.
- Refine the edges if needed, or replace the background with a colour, gradient or another image from the Background panel.
- Click Export and choose PNG to keep the transparent background.

Frequently asked questions
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No. EditXo runs entirely inside your browser using your own device. Your images are never uploaded, transmitted or stored by us, so there is nothing for anyone to intercept or leak.
Why does the first background removal take longer?
The AI model is downloaded to your browser the first time you use it. After that it is cached, and removals take a few seconds depending on your device.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. EditXo works in modern mobile browsers. Larger photos take longer on a phone than on a laptop, and a very old device may struggle with the AI model.
Is EditXo free? Do I need an account?
EditXo is free to use and there is no account to create. Open the editor, drop in a photo and start editing.
Which image formats are supported?
You can open PNG, JPG, WebP and HEIC photos. You can export the result as PNG, JPG, WebP or AVIF.
