LinkedIn image sizes, from LinkedIn’s own help pages

By the EditXo team · Updated 7 October 2026 · 6 min read

LinkedIn publishes its image specs across several help articles, which is why most size lists online contradict each other. This guide pulls them together from LinkedIn’s own pages, linked below and read on the date at the top, and shows the quickest way to produce each one in EditXo.

Profile photo

LinkedIn accepts profile photos from 400 x 400 up to 7680 x 4320 pixels, as PNG or JPG under 8 MB. It displays them in a circle, so whatever is in the corners of your square photo will not be seen. Frame your face in the centre with some space above the head. LinkedIn asks that the photo reflects your likeness; an illustration is allowed, a logo is not.

If you have removed the background from a headshot, put it on a solid or subtle gradient colour before uploading. A transparent PNG profile photo is shown on whatever LinkedIn chooses as the background, which may not be what you expect.

Cover image

The personal cover image is 1584 x 396, a 4:1 strip. On desktop your profile photo overlaps the lower-left part of it, and on mobile it is cropped more tightly, so keep text and logos towards the centre and right. LinkedIn notes that photographs tend to look sharper than images with logos, and that a blurry cover is usually a heavily compressed file.

Post images

When you share a link, LinkedIn uses a 1.91:1 image, 1200 x 627. If the image is narrower than 200 pixels it appears as a small thumbnail beside the text instead. Image-only posts are more flexible: LinkedIn enlarges them to fit the feed, and on mobile other ratios show in full with subtle padding rather than being cropped. Square 1080 x 1080 and 1200 x 627 are both safe choices.

Make them in EditXo

  1. Open editxo.com and drop in your photo. Nothing is uploaded.
  2. Cover image: Adjust tab, Quick Presets, LinkedIn cover. Drag to choose which strip of the photo is kept, then export as JPG.
  3. Link post image: Quick Presets, LinkedIn post (1200 x 627).
  4. Profile photo or Page logo: use the profile picture maker to frame the face in a circle preview, add a background colour behind a cut-out headshot, and export at 400 x 400 or larger.
  5. Export JPG at quality 85 to 90. Everything stays well under LinkedIn’s 8 MB (profile) and 3 MB (Page) limits.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my LinkedIn cover look blurry?

LinkedIn suggests choosing a larger, less compressed file, and notes that photos look sharper than logo graphics. Export at quality 85 or above and at exactly 1584 x 396.

Can I upload a GIF as my LinkedIn photo?

No. LinkedIn supports PNG and JPG for profile photos.

Should I use the #OpenToWork frame or make my own?

LinkedIn’s own Open to Work and Hiring frames are added inside LinkedIn and are linked to your profile settings. A frame you design yourself is just part of the image. Use LinkedIn’s if you want the feature; use your own design for other platforms.

Is my photo uploaded to EditXo?

No. Cropping, resizing and export run in your browser.
